Knee Dominant

Equipment: Dumbbell
Difficulty: Intermediate
Movement Pattern: Squat

The 2DB Walking Lunge is a dynamic unilateral exercise that combines strength development, postural control and locomotor coordination. Unlike static lunge variations, each repetition requires a continuous transition between force production, stabilization and forward movement, increasing neuromuscular demands and whole-body involvement. The exercise primarily targets the quadriceps, glutes and adductors while requiring substantial core activation to maintain balance and control throughout the movement. For these reasons, it is widely used in athletic development and strength programs aimed at improving dynamic stability, coordination and single-leg force production.

Coaching Cues

Keep the torso tall and stable throughout the movement. Take controlled steps while maintaining pelvic control. Lower the body vertically rather than drifting forward. Keep the front knee aligned with the foot. Drive through the front leg to initiate the next step. Maintain balanced weight distribution during transitions. Control trunk position throughout every repetition. Move smoothly without sacrificing movement quality.

Common Mistakes

Losing trunk stability during the walking phase. Taking steps that are too long or too short. Allowing the knee to collapse inward. Using momentum instead of muscular control. Limiting depth unnecessarily. Losing pelvic alignment between repetitions. Excessive side-to-side movement during progression.
