The Physioball Reverse Hypers is a posterior-chain activation exercise designed to improve recruitment of the glutes, hamstrings and trunk extensors. The physioball provides a controlled environment that promotes coordinated lumbopelvic movement and enhances awareness of proper hip extension mechanics. The exercise is commonly included in activation and movement preparation routines to improve neuromuscular control of the posterior chain before progressing to more demanding activities such as deadlifts, squats, sprinting and athletic movements requiring effective force production through the hips.
Coaching Cues
Keep the trunk stable throughout the movement. Lift the legs by extending the hips rather than the lower back. Actively squeeze the glutes at the top position. Maintain core tension to stabilize the pelvis. Control the movement and avoid excessive momentum.
Common Mistakes
Overextending the lower back during the lifting phase. Using momentum instead of muscular control. Losing pelvic stability during the movement. Compensating with spinal motion instead of hip extension. Relaxing tension during the lowering phase.
