The SL Glute Bridge (Single Leg Glute Bridge) is a unilateral activation exercise used to improve glute recruitment, pelvic stability and posterior chain control. By working one leg at a time, it helps identify and address strength and stability asymmetries between sides while enhancing hip extensor activation. The exercise is commonly used during activation and movement preparation phases to improve neuromuscular control before progressing to more demanding exercises such as squats, deadlifts and athletic hip-extension movements.
Coaching Cues
Keep the pelvis level throughout the movement. Drive through the heel to create hip extension. Actively squeeze the glute at the top position. Maintain core tension and avoid lumbar compensation. Control the lowering phase while keeping pelvic alignment.
Common Mistakes
Excessive lumbar extension at the top position. Allowing the pelvis to rotate or drop to one side. Dominating the movement with the hamstrings. Losing control during the eccentric phase. Compensating with the non-working side.
