The Cable Face Pull is one of the most effective exercises for developing the posterior shoulder and upper-back musculature, targeting the rear deltoids, trapezius, rhomboids and rotator cuff muscles. Through the combination of scapular retraction and shoulder external rotation, it serves as an excellent complement to pressing and pulling exercises while promoting muscular balance, posture and shoulder control. Unlike many rowing variations, the Face Pull places greater emphasis on shoulder stability and the smaller stabilizing muscles that are often undertrained in traditional strength programs. For this reason, it is widely used in athletic development, injury-prevention programs and shoulder-health training.
Pull
CBL face pull
Keep the cable aligned with the face. Initiate each repetition by retracting the shoulder blades. Pull the rope toward the forehead or eyes. Separate the rope ends during the pull. Keep the elbows high throughout the movement. Externally rotate the shoulders at the finish. Keep the chest proud without arching the lower back. Control the return phase completely.
Turning the movement into a row. Pulling the rope toward the neck or chest. Allowing the elbows to drop. Using excessive weight. Compensating with lumbar extension. Failing to control the eccentric phase. Skipping the final external rotation.
