Pull

Equipment: Dumbbell
Difficulty: Intermediate
Movement Pattern: Pull

The 2DB Split Stance Rotational Row is a dynamic rowing variation that combines upper-body pulling with active trunk rotation. Unlike anti-rotation rowing exercises that emphasize stabilization, this variation is designed to produce and control rotational movement, improving coordination between the lower body, pelvis, trunk and upper extremities throughout the exercise. Rotational row variations are commonly used to develop hip loading, thoracic movement and force transfer across the kinetic chain. The exercise primarily targets the latissimus dorsi, rhomboids, trapezius and posterior shoulder musculature while simultaneously challenging the core and hip stabilizers. Because of this integrated demand, it is particularly useful in athletic development programs for sports involving rotation, acceleration and multidirectional force production.

Common Mistakes

Rotating only through the shoulders. Losing control of the front hip. Turning the movement into uncontrolled torso swinging. Using excessive momentum. Failing to maintain spinal alignment. Shrugging the shoulders during the row. Reducing scapular contribution during the pulling phase.
