The Trap Bar Elevated Squat is a squat variation that uses a trap bar to promote balanced load distribution and a more upright torso position throughout the movement. The elevated starting position creates a more accessible setup, making the exercise suitable for individuals with mobility limitations or those still developing squat mechanics. This exercise develops lower body strength, stability and coordination while targeting the quadriceps, glutes and trunk musculature. Due to the unique loading position, it serves as an effective tool for reinforcing squat mechanics and building foundational strength.
Coaching Cues
Establish a stable stance and keep pressure through the entire foot. Keep the chest tall and brace the core before descending. Allow the hips and knees to flex together during the squat. Keep the knees tracking in line with the toes. Drive through the floor while maintaining a stable torso.
Common Mistakes
Losing spinal neutrality during the movement. Allowing the knees to collapse inward. Shifting excessive weight onto the toes. Failing to maintain trunk tension at the bottom position. Using uncontrolled depth or tempo.
