The Physioball Shoulders Y's is an activation and motor-control exercise designed to improve shoulder stability and scapulothoracic control. Similar to the Physioball Shoulders I's, it is performed in a prone position on a physioball and aims to enhance recruitment of the muscles responsible for scapular stability.
The primary difference from the I's variation is the arm position, which is elevated to form a "Y" shape. This position increases the involvement of the lower trapezius and the muscles responsible for upward scapular rotation, helping improve scapular control and shoulder stability during overhead activities.
The exercise is commonly included in activation, injury-prevention, upper-body movement preparation routines before pressing, pulling and overhead training exercises, and Shoulder Care protocolos.
