Origin: Iliac Fossa of Ilium (11)

Insertion: Lesser Trochanter of femur  (10), in front of the Psoas Major (1) fibers

Actions:

  • during unilateral contraction it Flexes the thigh at the hip joint
  • during bilateral contraction it Flexes the trunk

Helping Synergist Muscles:

  • together with Psoas Major, Sartorius, Rectus Femoris, Tensor Fasciae Latae, Pectineus (2), Adductor Major (7), Adductor Longus (3) acts the thigh Flexion
  • together with Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Rectus Femoris, Adductor Maximus and Adductor Brevis (6) helps the External Rotation of the thigh

Notes: together with the Psoas Major it forms the Ileopsoas muscle, a large, broad and convergent type of skeletal muscle
