Origin: anterior superior Iliac Spine (6)

Insertion: medial surface of the Tibia (13)

Actions: thigh and leg Flexion, Abduction and Lateral Rotation of the thigh, Medial Rotation of the leg (if bent knee)

Helping Synergist Muscles:

  • together with Rectus Femoris (1), Tensor Fasciae Latae, Ileopsoas, Gluteus Minimus, Adductor Magnus, Adductor Longus and Pectineus acts to produce the thigh flexion
  • together with Gluteus Maximus, Gluteus Medius, Gluteus Minimus, Tensor Fasciae Latae and Rectus Femoris acts to produce the thigh Abduction
  • together with Hamstrings, Gracilis and Gastrocnemius acts to produce the leg Flexion
  • Semimembranosus, Semitendinosus and Gracilis helping it to produce the Medial Rotation of the leg

Notes: Sartorius muscle is a bi-articular muscle and it is the longest one in human body. Together with Gracilis and Semitendinosus tendons it joins in the "Pes Anserinus" before tibial insertion
